(Sorry that this is all in the third person and thus rather
pretentious sounding--I originally wrote it for something else.--Grace)
"Grace Under Pressure," Teacher Magazine
March-April 2004
An in-depth article about Grace and her Not Back to School Camp. Grace
thinks the slant is a bit misleading, and there are a number of factual
errors (mostly pertaining to numbers of things and years), but it's interesting overall. There are letters responding
to the article in the May issue and the September issue--the September
issue includes a response from Grace. If you read this article,
please understand that Grace adores and greatly respects her brother
Othman and has certainly gotten more than "one thing" out of
being his little sister--there's a rather misleading quote in the article
on that subject.

One of Grace's favorite interviews with her, though there are a few
typos and she wishes her speech might have been airbrushed slightly to
make her sound a little bit more intelligent and more skilled at
forming sentences. Conducted sometime around
1998 by Peter Kowalke, and originally published in his print zine Nation. Peter's site has other good stuff on
unschooling, too.

feature, "The Back Page: Talking with people who make a difference")
in the March/April 2004 issue of this excellent magazine for unschoolers.
Hope
Magazine
The May/June 2003 issue of this inspiring magazine included an article by
Michelle Nijhuis about Grace's work called "School's Out." Grace
feels honored both by Michelle's treatment of the story and by being
included in Hope.

information about Issue #17, containing an interview with Grace, 1999 or
so.
Paths

Another good magazine on alternative education.
This link will take you to
information about ordering back issues; #2 contains an interview with Grace.
Growing
Without Schooling
Unfortunately defunct, the best-ever magazine to support unschoolers,
founded by the late and very great John Holt. Issue #84 (1991) ran
an interview with Grace conducted by Susannah Sheffer.

A lovely group of people in the Netherlands is putting out a Dutch
edition of The Teenage Liberation Handbook, and they may do other
foreign-language editions down the road. They hope to find more investors
and other people who want to be involved in their project.
The
Self-Education Foundation
is a unique,
low-budget, innovative, effective nonprofit organization led by young people
who are
committed to supporting individual and community empowerment through
self-education. It gives grants and does community organizing and outreach.
Grace has served on its board.
Not
Back To School Camp
An
"offspring" of the Teenage Liberation Handbook, this is a
summer camp Grace started for unschooled teenagers. Has more
good unschooling links.
Holt
Associates
Holt Associates is the legacy of the late educational reformer John
Holt, founder of the unschooling movement. There are now many publishers
who offer books on unschooling/homeschooling, but Holt Associates is one
of the oldest and most important. (They were also the publishers of Growing
Without Schooling magazine.) They're not very busy as publishers
anymore, but their site still has useful information.
